As always, the last day is a bit weird. Everything is packed away and we still had the whole day before catching our flight.
At breakfast we met a Belgian couple who arrived during the night and were about to start their New Zealand holiday so we stayed at the table talking a bit longer than expected.
Once the car was loaded we drove to nearby Mount Eden for a last view over Auckland. We then drove to the West Coast village of Piha with it’s black sand beach. The area is also popular with surfers catching the waves between the two rocks on either side of the bay. We climbed a nearby hill for a view over the bay and slowly made our way to the area’s reserve visitor center along the scenic route.
By then is was almost time to get to the Apex depot to return our car and take the shuttle to the airport where Emirates had a nice Airbus 380 waiting for us.
