It was already dark when we took off for the 17.5 hour flight to Dubai. Having a seat in front of the wings and engines meant it was very quiet where we sat so we could enjoy a few of the 2700 titles on the A-380’s entertainment system and sleep a bit too. Since flying West means following the Sun, or better, the night, it was still dark when we arrived in Dubai in the morning. We went through security and made our way to the gate for our next flight on a B-777 that would bring us to Brussels in a little over 7 hours. This flight was also late and left Dubai a little after sunrise.
Arriving in Brussels we were told our luggage was left behind so we had to register at the Lost&Found office and describe our suitcases. By evening one suitcase was already delivered at home and the other followed on Monday afternoon.
24 hours after we got home a large earthquake hit New Zealand, damaging and closing roads and halting ferry services… a narrow escape…
