With rain expected around 1 in the afternoon we took the expressway to Uradome coast island cruise for a boat trip along the coast. We timed the two-hour drive perfectly with 10 minutes to spare only to be told that the waves were too high to go out. We then backtracked about 7 Km to the Tottori Sanddunes, a 16 by 2.5 Km stretch of dunes on edge of the Sea of Japan. As this was a Sunday the area was very busy. We spotted several eagles looking for food flying above our heads.
A few hundred meters away we also visited the Sand museum that featured an exhibition of sand sculptures with Egyptian theme
Before leaving Tottori we went to the local Aeon mall for some supplies and early diner as our next hotel, although brand new, has no kitchen service and there is hardly anything in the neighborhood to get food.
As we arrived we noticed the were only 4 cars in the parking lot and as we entered 4 staff were waiting for us, could it be….. are we the only ones here? We’ll know for sure tomorrow morning.
