We’re moving again. We’re leaving Matsuyama for our next destination, Hiroshima. We’re not staying in the city as we were there in 2009 but instead have accommodation near the airport in a quiet green environment from where it’s easy to make another tour.
Less than an hour from Matsuyama there’s the beautiful Imabari Castle with it’s 60m wide moat filled with seawater. We were surprised to see some cherry blossoms still in full bloom here although they are a different kind with larger flowers.
To get to Hiroshima from Shikoku we had to cross several islands. There used to be ferries to get across but we drove along the different large bridges. From Kirosan Panorama Park we had a nice, although hazy, view of the first bridges.
On the island of Ikuchijima we went to the Kousan-ji temple complex. This has several large temples, a few smaller ones and a 2-storey and 5-storey pagoda and a cave with a 1000 Buddhas.
As we arrived on the island of Honchu we made a last stop in Onomichi for a walk along part of the temple walk. One of the special things here is “Cat alley” a narrow path with signs, statues and and decorations of cats. There are of course also real cats everywhere.
After settling in our house we walked a short distance for dinner in the nearby airport terminal.
Prachtige foto’s weer! Wat me opvalt is dat er zelden mensen op staan. Weinig volk ginder op dit moment? Wacht je tot evt voorbijgangers buiten beeld zijn om het ideale kiekje te maken?
