The weather in the morning was still the same as yesterday evening so we left Kochi in the pouring rain for a 150Km to Cape Ashizuri, the southernmost tip of Shikoku. Close by, along the path, is the lighthouse and about 500 meter further, after going down a lot of stairs we got to the Hakusan Natural arch. Of course we had to climb the stairs again on the way back. Before getting back to the car we made another stop at the Kongofukuji Temple where a few pilgrims were praying.
We drove North along the coast to Tatsukushi Marine park. By now the rain finally stopped and so we able to walk over the special rockformations. We expected to go on a glassbottom boat tout but they were not operating today, probably because of the inclement weather. At the same place the Ashizuri Underwater Observation Tower was closed also. This is a big steel pipe that takes visitors deep under the water to see marine life.
We drove back to Shimanto, the closed city with decent accommodation from where we will make our way to Matsuyama tomorrow. Time to dry our coats and backpacks as well as the camera’s that had fogged up lenses during the day (with up to 100mm of rain).
