We had a short tour in the area planned for today so we could take it easy for a change. Our first destination was a 30-minute boat tour through the Oboke Gorge. The gorge can also be seen from a few higher up platforms along the road.
Closeby is a museum about demons, statues of them can be seen all over Japan but here 10’s of them are on display in one building. As an added bonus, the upper floor has an exhibition of minerals from all over the world. Just off the main road we drove a few kilometers along the Yokai Demon trail to see demon statues that are placed next to the road.
We continued our clockwise tour along the Iya river stopping at viewpoints overlooking the valley. Along the way we made an extra stop at the Manikin Peeing Boy Statue, placed to honor the daredevils who peed from this rock.
For once we were back at the tiny house early so we could relax a bit and prepare to leave tomorrow morning for a long drive with many stops.
