Our second day in Innsbruck started in bright sunshine so we decided to walk to the Nordkette funicular and cable cars for a visit to the top of Hafelekar. We expected to need some extra layers of clothing at the two highest stations but the sun gave enough heat to hike in a T-shirt.
Although vaccination proof (not checked!) and masks are mandatory to go up the mountain we felt that to many people were allowed in the cable cars.
1905m high at Seegrube station we made a 2Km hike to have a nice view over Innsbruck and the airport. With only a handful flights today, we were lucky to see a plane flying in below us. Next stop was the Hafelekar at 2334m where did a short 700m hike up to the cross (and a nearby geocache).
As we spend so much time up the mountain it was already late when we got back in the city where we could take a tram to Schloss Ambrass. A 1 Km steep climb got us to the castle’s park with large trees and lots of squirrels. After a drink in the castle’s café we made our way back, downhill this time, to the tram.
