It was still raining in the morning so the scenic route over the Shiretoko pass was a bit disappointing. We followed the coast to Notsuke peninsula, a narrow piece of land with a nature reserve. We waited a while for the rain to clear and then walked 1.3 Kilometers to the boardwalk that allowed us to “walk on water”. On the way back we spotted a few deer and when we drove back we also saw a fox looking for food.
As the sun began to shine we decided to continue to Nemuro, another peninsula and nature reserve. It was probably because of the strong winds that there were few birds around. We could easily have skipped this last stop as it was not worth the effort.
By then it was time to get to our accommodation, a Japanese style guesthouse with only a few rooms.
