We had tickets for Miniatur Wunderland at 18h so we had most of the day to spend in Hamburg’s center. Going to the historic part of town was only a short walk from our hotel in Hafencity, a restored area with warehouses. We walked along the Wasserschloss to city hall (cordoned off because of an upcoming triathlon). Closeby are the Alsterarkaden with shops from where we continued to the, in WW II destroyed, St-Nikolai church and on to the Kramer-Witwen-Wohnung from the 17th century and St-Michaelis church. After a drink at the Hard Rock Café we walked back to the hotel for a quick stop via the waterfront.
A little later it was time to walk to Miniatur Wunderland where we spend 4 hours looking at the impressive models of different cities from around the world.
