As we did yesterday, breakfast was at 6:30 because we had to leave at seven to get to Puerto Bandera.
At 8:30 the boat to Estancia Cristina left the dock for a 3 hour trip to the former farm. We were cruising at a slow pace and made a detour to the Upsala glacier, part of the third biggest icecap in the world (after Antarctica and Greenland). When we got closer there were icebergs floating around and at one of them we stopped for a photo opportunity as there was a professional photographer on board. The boat then returned the same way out of the fjord to the Estancia. We were split into different groups depending on the type of tour and boarded the big 4×4 for a 9.5 Km drive up to the viewing area for the glacier. Since the sun was shining and there was not a single cloud in the sky the scenery was amazing.
After a while we made our way back down to the main building for lunch after which it was time to visit the farm’s museum. During the tour we learned that the owner of the farm was a keen radio amateur (LU5XE) as there was a board with QSL cards, two of them from Belgium, and his old Yaesu FRG7.
We walked part of the grounds and were then driven back to the boat for our 2 hour return trip.
Then It was another 35 minutes back to El Calafate
