Because of the mess Aerolineas Argentinas made by changing our flights we stayed one night in a different hotel after arriving in El Calafate. We packed, loaded the car and then waited to be picked up for a 4×4 tour to the Balcones.
The Land Rover stopped right on time and we quickly realized there was going to be a linguistic problem, the driver only spoke Spanish but was eager to tell us all about the trip. As we were the only ones on the tour we could just ask to stop for photos anytime. As we drove up the mountain we got a nice view of El Calafate and Lago Argentina. At the top we saw horses roaming free and a condor flew high above our heads. Despite the wind and lower temperatures there we several different types of flowers to be found and at one place we saw fossils of shells in the rocks.
On the way back we passed a few pinnacles before arriving at the cabin where we were served lunch.
From the cabin it was mostly downhill back to the hotel where we transferred to our own car and drove to the B&B we originally booked months ago.
