As usual when travelling West we were awake before the alarmclock went off. After a nice breakfast we were ready to be picked up by Richard for a tour of the old city. We parked near the Cathedral which we visited first to see the beautiful stained glass windows. We continued on foot along the hilly streets to Plaza Grande with the archpiscopal palace. Because of festivities the area was very busy with schoolchildren and families who all dressed up for the occasion. We continued along a few churches and monestaries before getting back to the car for a drive up Panecillo for an overview of the city.
Through heavy traffic we the drove North to “Mitad del mundo” where a monument was erected at the Equator. Unfortunattely measurements were not accurate at the time so now we know the monument is 0.133 off, a new sign is placed further away but there too the “GPS calculated” sign is not at 0 00.000.
Although according to the tour schedule we were supposed to be back at the hotel around 2 o’clock, it was around 4 when we were back in our room.

Die 00 00.000 wil zeggen dat we op dat ogenblik niet echt S of N stonden. De evenaar ligt echter ten noorden van het monument dat op de evenaar zou staan.
