When we got up the rain was pouring down so we had to limit our stops on the way to Westport. We skipped stopping at Franz Jozef glacier and drove on to Hokitita, the birth place of New Zealand’s aviation. The beach here is well known for it’s driftwood but again the rain stopped us from doing a walk here. We moved on to Punakaiki, here the rain stopped for a while giving us the opportunity to do the loop walk along the pancake rocks, named because they look like a stack of American pancakes.
By evening we arrived in Westport, just in time for some shopping and dinner.
